What You Need to Know About Off-Leash TrainingAt Sublime K9 Training & Boarding, we are passionate about dog training. We want to teach your dog the skills they need to live comfortably with you, your family members, and other animals without causing stress or safety hazards.

In this article, we will focus on our off-leash training services, going over some key information you need to know about what off-leash training is and how it works.

  • Off-leash training increases freedom. One reason why many dog owners are drawn to off-leash training is because they want their dogs to have more freedom and independence. When a dog is trained to walk off-leash, they can walk beside you and have more freedom to explore their surroundings without being physically tethered to you.
  • Off-leash training takes time. While the rewards of off-leash training are great for both you and your dog, it’s important to understand how much work the process takes. At minimum, it takes weeks of off-leash training before your dog is ready to walk off-leash in an open area, and it could take months. In addition, you need to be prepared to reinforce your dog’s training consistently to maintain the expectations of off-leash walking.
  • Going off-leash has inherent risks. Lastly, we want you to be aware of the inherent risks of letting your dog go off-leash, even with the best of training. If you let your dog walk off-leash, there is always a chance they could run off and get themselves into a dangerous situation, such as an encounter with a dangerous animal, or by the dog running into traffic. Be responsible about when and where you let your dog off the leash.
