When it comes to dog training, there are many different ways to go about it. We often use voice and visual stimuli, as well as commands, to communicate with your dog. However, we may also need to incorporate touch into the mix to help capture your dog’s attention when it is distracted. For this, we can use training collars known as e-collars.
Here are a few things you need to know about e-collars to help you understand their use.
- Not a shock collar: The most important thing to know about e-collars is that they are not at all like shock collars. Instead of potentially hurting the dog with a shock whenever they bark or misbehave, the e-collars send a low tingling sensation that is similar to being tapped on the shoulder. The sensation is so gentle that you wouldn’t even feel it on your hand. It’s just enough to grab the dog’s attention while distracted.
- Not a punishment: We work hard to train your dog in a way that they don’t see the e-collars as a form of punishment when they have to wear them. They’re not meant to be a punishment but rather used as teaching devices. They can be used for both positive and negative reinforcement for a balanced training system.
- Only used as part of our training package: We do not sell our e-collars separately from our dog training packages. Without our specific training, these collars can be ineffective or misused. We can make sure the training is done correctly, so your dog understands the use of the e-collar and responds correctly to it when it is used for training purposes.
